Balenciaga Spring 2022 The "Clone" Collection Real Time Reaction Fashion Show Review
Designer Demna Gvasalia titled his Spring 2022 collection “Balenciaga Clones” for the august fashion house. And there was so much cloning going on in this show. Demna’s favorite model Eliza Douglas, who has opened every show the designer has done for the house since he got there, was the superimposed face on every model on the runway. A dream concept for many designers I imagine. And the clothing too felt cloned as they were a lineup of Demna’s greatest sartorial hits.
On the screen, which was the only way to view this collection in the current state of the world, the offering was pretty classic Demna era Balenciaga. With the added bravado of the designer’s take on the Gucciaga collaboration that was first unveiled on the Gucci catwalk back in April. This time it was the designer’s turn to twist on its head the codes of the Italian house so that its famed double Gs became double Bs and the brand’s logo bags were spraypaint tagged to say that they were not Gucci.
There was a lot going on behind the scene of this show, in terms of digital and tech, to make this presentation looked so polished. Apparently, the video producer Quentin Deronzier used things like photogrammetry, planar tracking, rotoscoping, machine learning, 3D modeling, and C.G. grafting of Douglas’s face to create the disconcerting doppelganger effect. But for those who didn’t have early access to a technical press release or a pre-show private interview with the designer, to give them a heads up about all that techno-wizardry, the show itself skated on the razor’s edge of redundancy.
Here’s hoping that Demna’s debut haute couture show for Balenciaga, the first for the house in over 50 years, is where he has been channeling all his creative energy.

Red dress is almost a reference to Divine from Pink Flamingo.... The collection is much deeper then just a silhouettes and layering....All black is about “followers” who look the same when following a trend. Demna never bows after the show....👌🏻

A few years ago I stumbled upon your instagram 60 seconds reviews of fashion shows and you are one of the reasons you made me fall in love in the world of fashion. I'm not a fashion junky, my closet isn't filled with designer clothes; I'm just studying towards becoming a primary school teacher (haha such a different world), but it would be awesome to rock one of these looks in front of the class room ;) I absolutely fell in love with this collection and what you have mentioned; there are many beautiful statement pieces that are totally wearable. That sweater at 23:37 with the open-sided sleeves is one of my favourites. Combining it with a shirt with the high collar...

Hi...I am so happy to hear you like this format. I am really stepping out of my comfort zone. But the good news is the menswear shows in Paris look like they will be in person again...so maybe I can start back up my 60 second reviews again...as well as a few of these longer version ones for the big shows.

Must be hard by the way if fashion houses continue to show videos with fast edits, which almost makes it impossible to see the garments in all the details (it drives me completely mad!).
